amendment, the effect of which was fully explained to the

Unofficial Members of the Council. The increased fees will

on the basis of last year's receipts produce $31,675 per

annum additional revenue.

An error in the drafting of section 6

has been rectified.

(e) In sections 7 and 8 Chinese Hotels

have been classed with Boarding-houses, there being no

reason why a free or assisted emigrant should not lodge in

an hotel, if he should so desire. Certain of the hotels

are already licensed as boarding-houses, and it is

considered advisable that they should be licensed under

the designation 'Hotel'.
